Have you all heard about this stuff? The choking game that kids are playing?

There was an article about this in my People magazine last week. Reading through it, I was so floored. I can't believe kids are doing stuff like this. One mother spoke about how she'd warned her daughter about drugs and drinking, but who would ever think to warn them about this?
Apparently, kids are choking each other and themselves to get some "high" feeling that is similar to drugs. They black out, and when they come to, all the blood rushes to their brains. A great feeling. Almost sexual. HELLO!!!!
It's scary enough that kids are playing around with this. But some of them are taking it too far, doing it when they are alone with no one to stop the choking before it is too late. Kids are dying from this choking game. And I haven't heard of it before last week.
And I wonder why I don't watch the news!!
These are good things to know, though. Makes you more prepared with the children in your life. I wanted to bring this up, in case any of you haven't heard about it either.
{ in a related note, we now can not by things like Sudafed because it is being abused...can someone please tell me what kids are doing with this stuff??? }

This is horrible. Makes me want to cry! I will keep this in the back of my mind to try and watch for any signs of it. Sad, Sad indeed!
This is terrible! I had no idea this was going on. Where would children get this crazy idea? Just like Melissa said, I don't ever remember being exposed to this. EVER.

That is so sad and tragic. I can't imagine anyone choking themselves. Kids are exposed to so much these days...So now my mental list has to go something like no sex until you're married (a mom can hope!), no drugs, no drinking, no choking? Good Lord....
My understanding with the sudafed is that people use it to make crystal meth.
Hi. Certainly that silent dead sadness to hear of people dying like this. I remember pretty much all of my friends doing this back when I was a teenager (90s). They did the lean over, stand up and hands around the neck version. I think I tried it but was much too goody-two shoes to do it much -brain cells-.
Though this game is dangerous and ill advised, I think there is room for harm reduction. As prohibitions rarely work, I think the key is to explain the damage, and the danger, and if the kids still want to try it, have them only do it with their own hands. Once you pass out a bit, you can't choke yourself anymore. Have the rush, kill a few brain cells, wake back up.
