friendship

Isn't this a darling purse?! I met with my friend Pat last evening for dinner, and we exchanged Christmas gifts...I was thrilled when I opened the package to discover this cute little gift, handmade by her. It certainly increases my desire to learn how to knit, that's for sure! That's a goal for the new year...

My friendship with Pat is an interesting one. We met through work, as a part of a contest to win the trip to Tahiti. We took part in the "Buddy Program", and my job was to support her, encourage her, etc. in her sales. Pat and I clicked right away. I'm horrible with age, but she's probably at least 50...she lives in Minnesota, and we got to know one another through phone calls, emails, and little cards through the mail. We talk about a lot of stuff. She's a wise woman, and I cherish her insight. She's got such a happy, upbeat voice, and hearing it on the phone always lifts my spirits. We got the chance to meet in person last Christmas, and since then, we've kept in contact. The contest is over, and we're still friends. I still try to encourage her.

She's in town again this Christmas, and she suggested we have dinner. That thrilled me! I picked her up at her hotel and we spent a lovely evening together, chatting non-stop. She's something else. I feel blessed to have her in my life...and it was such an odd chance that I even was able to get to know her. Life is truly crazy sometimes.

On the way home from our dinner, I found myself thinking about women and friendship. I don't think men understand women and friendship, they don't have the need that women do to CONNECT. It's interesting, isn't it? We women want to connect, want to talk, want to listen, want to learn from one another, want to feel uplifted, want to laugh, want to be understood for who we are. Friendship is such a blessing to women. We've all got those friends who have known us forever, those childhood friends that still have a special place in our heart today. We've all got those new friends that fulfill a new need in us since we have grown and changed. And all those special friends in between.

I am a lucky girl to have so many wonderful women in my life...
