weekend fun

This weekend was fairly busy. Saturday, we enjoyed a soccer tournament in town all day. Three games, two losses and a tie. We played up in the next age bracket, in order to get some good competition practice for our upcoming Tournament of Champions in December. The girls did pretty good, they definitely held their own against the bigger and faster 14 year olds.

Here I am, watching some soccer fun:

Sunday, we had our annual Christmas Card Photo photo shoot with Kim and her family!! Our original plan was to head outside to a pretty location to get some good natural light. Of course, in West Texas, we should have known. We woke up this morning to gusting winds, and the option of outdoor photos went straight out the window. We all decided to move the shoot indoors at our new home. With our stone fireplace, pretty tan walls, brick exterior, and their white sheet backdrop, we had some options.

I'm not sure why, but every stinking year I make the stupid decision that we should not use our flash, because of the natural lighting coming in the windows. You'd think I would learn. Our camera is just not capable of it. And especially without a tripod. I would say the majority of our shots came out blurry, unfortunately. We did get a handful of good ones, and one that can be used for the Christmas card. I must make a mental note for the coming years. If we're inside, USE THE FLASH!!! No matter what!

Kim and Gary's awesome new camera (and even awesome-er new sports lens) most likely did not have the same problem. The sports lens, I'm sure, is must quicker and hopefully did not blur. So I'm hoping I was able to get some good ones of them. They all looked so cute in their red and black ensembles!! I don't think they took a whole bunch of us with their camera, but maybe I'll be surprised and they'll have a few good ones.

Another note: my hair. Oi. I had it down and all hot rolled, and it looked really pretty. For some reason though, today I felt like I was going to combust from the inside out. I was burning up all day, and add to that the fairly warm temperature and my cashmere sweater, and I was just HOT. Therefore my hair started getting pretty fuzzy, even before they arrived. Up the hair went. That really displeases me!!!

Without further ado...the winning photo for our 2007 Christmas Card!!!

Ha!!!!!!!!! Do you people REALLY think I'd be showing you that before the cards go out??! Please. However, this is one of my favorite shots from the day. I got the idea from Jamie Watters, she took a similar one at an engagement shoot. The "old timey" photo stance of standing stick straight and not smiling...all Chris and I need is a farming tool between us!! :) Aspen, of course, couldn't keep much of a straight face...but in this one, I like the contrast of her vs. us. Cracks me up!! You really need to click on this one to see the larger photo for details...

I'll share a few of the other good ones from the day...just a handful:

If you knew how hard it was to get this shot!!! Ocho wanted to look everywhere but the camera...but this one is perfect of us with our special boy!!

Some cute ones of each of us, with Aspen...

And if the one with Ocho was difficult to obtain, this one was even worse!!! We are thrilled that we have all three boys in the shot with us...if only Ocho was looking! But, we'll take what we can get!

So, we'll see how Kim and Gary's camera did...I'm anxious to see theirs!!!

That old Time picture cracks me up!! I love how it turned out. To funny. We had such a great time with the photo shoot once again! Thanks for letting us use your beautiful home! It was a perfect back drop.

I really wish the lighting hadn't been a factor on both of our pictures, one of these days we are gong to get it right! We did have a couple to choose from, so we will have a pretty Christmas card once again this year.

Thanks for making this such a special time with my family each year!
