long hot weekend

:: The regional qualifying meet did not go well this weekend, unfortunately...Friday evening, Aspen ran the 3000m. She ended up rolling her ankle at the start of the race, and if you look closely at her face in the above photo, you can see that she ran nearly 8 laps in some pain. There were only four girls in this race, and the top four advance onto nationals. So, even coming in last, Aspen did technically qualify to move on. However, Chris told her that she would have to qualify in both of her races to make the trip to Des Moines, and she had more bad luck during her 1500m race on Saturday. At first, she didn't think she'd be able to run at all because of her ankle, but Coach talked her into taping it up for the race. She was running good and said it didn't really hurt, and after a lap she was making a move to catch the lead girl. Unfortunately, she cut back in too quickly, and got tangled up with the runner she had passed. Aspen took a tumble, which rehurt her ankle. That was the end of the race for her, and she didn't move on. A yucky weekend for Aspen, indeed...

:: Beyond that, it is HOT this weekend. Over 100 degrees. Pretty miserable. I don't know if it's getting worse the older I get, but I can not handle the heat anymore. I have episodes where I nearly pass out. If I am not constantly drinking water, I get very light headed and start to see spots. Yesterday I had to lay down until it passed. Blah! What a weakling I am...

:: The week ahead holds a big event!! Chris turns 35 on Friday!! Woo hoo! To make that even better, we are both off work on Friday to celebrate the 4th of July. So we'll have the entire day for fun. I'm looking forward to it...

:: Tonight, we are attending a swim party in honor of our friend's 15th wedding anniversary! They are both fun people and we've enjoying forming a friendship with them. 15 years a big milestone, we are excited for them...I'll get to wear my new Victoria's Secret swim suit for the first time, though I don't know that I'll actually get in the water. Guess we'll see...

Hope you all had a great weekend and that you were able to stay cool!!
