:: Had a photo shoot today, during the noontime sun. Ug. Add to that a piping hot black track and hot metal bleachers, and whew! Every year, I take photos of all employee kids who are in a certain school district, for their football program. Hopefully I got some good shots, I haven't really had to time to check them out yet.
:: Wednesday is the big day...Ms. Aspen will turn 13. Officially a teenager. God help us all!!! Her festivities will actually begin tonight...her friend Bailey is going to spend the night so that they can get up very early in the morning and go to the beauty school with Mimi for a day of beauty...nail and toes...facials...the works. And this year, she has decided that she doesn't want to go to Mr. Gatti's for her birthday dinner...she's thinking maybe Red Lobster. Thank goodness!!! Mr. Gatti's is YUCKO. Should be a good day for our tween as she moves into the teen years...
:: We are on this weekend for the scrapbook retreat! We're going to have a salad bar for one of the meals, and I think that will be great. I need to figure out what other snacks to take to share, and figure out my own Clean food too. I will eat no junk at the retreat. I'll be having birthday cake for Aspen's day tomorrow, but otherwise this week is going to be stellar for me!
:: Chris is going strong on Day 2! Today he passed up breakfast burritos, doughnuts, and pizza, all of which were floating around in his department! Goodness! Very proud of him for that. I drizzled a tiny bit of agave nectar on our dinner peaches and you'd have thought I gave him gold!!! I think he licked the bowl! He's complaining a bit, but seems to be sticking to it. However, on Sunday when he takes Aspen to running camp in Dallas, his friend Rolando is going with him since I'll be at the retreat. Rolando eats nothing healthy. No veggies, no fruit, better if it's fried and fat. I foresee the road trip having some unclean food!!!
:: Looks like I have created a reading monster in Aspen! This, the girl who refused to read anything during the school year because she hates reading and all of which caused her to have very poor language arts grades. Now, since school has ended, she's been reading up a storm. Being grounded for aforementioned poor grades, she's really got nothing else to fill her time. But listen to this. She has read the entire Harry Potter series...SEVEN books, all of which are pretty large in size (most over 600 pages). That's amazing!!! Now she has started the Twilight series...it was a slow start for that. She was bored with the first chapter, and I had to encourage to keep reading, that it would pick up after she met Edward. Well, that was last night when she was on Chapter One. She finished Twilight this morning! I got her the second book, New Moon, at lunch, and she was done with it by 5:00!!!!! Now she's onto Eclipse and I'm sure will be done by tomorrow. Good grief!!!!!! I don't know who this child is!!! I can't tell you how happy I am that she's reading!
Tomorrow will have a birthday post for Ms. Aspen!

Yeah for Aspen...not only a big birthday to celebrate, but the reading is awesome. I always loved to read growing up and really think it is a great thing for kids to "learn" to enjoy. What an amazing influence you are as step mom to her...and wife to Chris with the clean eating...that is great! Can't believe his running friend is a junk food eater...who would have thought?
How awesome that she's reading! Reading more will definitely have a positive impact on her lift.
As for living with a 13-year-old...good luck! ;-) I hope she has a fabulous birthday and this is her best year yet.
WOO HOOO! Looking forward to the retreat this weekend. I'm glad you will get to attend both days!
I am so proud of her for reading so much! she is a faster reader then I am I think!! Goooo ASPEN!
