update

Photo taken via Blackberry in vet's exam room while waiting on x-ray results...

:: My poor Ocho is home, resting...after a day full of pain yesterday, we went to the vet first thing this morning. Dr. Bolt took an x-ray and determined that he had three good-sized stones. Not only that, but the stones had spikey edges, which are apparently the worst kind to have. So, they were too big to pass naturally and too spikey to pass safely. Two strikes against Mr. O. I had to leave him with the vet all day, and he squeezed in the surgery to remove the three stones. I picked Ocho up right after work, and he was calm and still a little sedated. His wound is bigger than I thought it would be, and not the best stitch up job. I guess they feel they don't have to be as careful with animals?? Ocho is moving gingerly, but doing good. And thankfully, he has been resting since we got home. He needs a ton of rest, after a full day Monday of no sleep at all, and a full day today at the vet's office. Now we need to figure out what kind of stones they are, and from that, what causes them. We want to do everything we can to prevent any more stones, because today was a very expensive day for Kelley. Very. Much more than I anticipated. Let's just say I could have bought 2-3 Coach purses with the surgery money!! Anyway, this is news to us, but apparently Chihuahua's are prone to stones. Not good!

:: Hopefully Ocho will sleep well and through the night tonight...both Chris and I really need a good full night of sleep. Last night was tough.

:: Went on a bike ride this evening while Chris ran. Five miles. All good and dandy, but right at 6:00 and still so very hot here in Texas. For the past year or so, I have just not been able to handle the heat at all. I have had a few "heat exhaustion" episodes...last summer while riding long miles with Chris; last August while climbing Enchanted Rock; the all-day Linkin Park concert; a track meet; all these random times in the heat, and all the same experience. My arms and legs begin to get tingly; I get really clammy; my head starts to swim; finally I feel like I'm going to pass out and the only thing to do is lay down immediately and drink some water. Well, I had an episode this evening on my bike, and actually just got off the bike and laid down in the street. Chris is always so good to me when these episodes happen...makes me drink water, and even walked my bike back to the house. I determined there was no way I could ride it back after attempting twice. Whew. I'm not sure why I can not handle the heat anymore. Has anyone else ever felt like this? I don't know if it's heat exhaustion or not...I googled the symptoms and it said nothing about tingly appendages. I need to be careful and always have plenty of water on hand...

:: Starting my 14 days of Crest White Strips today...all my wu long tea is making my teeth yellow, even though I drink it through a straw to help prevent that. White teeth, here I come!

:: All of our executive staff is at the Grand Canyon for the rest of the week for their annual Management Conference, so it should hopefully be a quiet 3 days. I have lots to get done and can hopefully take advantage of the quiet!

:: It's fairly early still, but after my long night I think I will relax and call it a night early. Zzzzzzzz....

Glad that Ocho is home safe and sound. Strange that the wound isn't stitched up the best... hopefully it heals better than it looks now.

Gary's mom has problems with the heat as well. I'm not sure if she has the same symptoms, but she can tell you the first time it happend to her and every since then it's pretty serious if she gets over heated. Sorry that you had to deal with this! The heat is horrible!
