4th anniversary getaway to fredericksburg

Chris and I had a lovely weekend away to our favorite little town, Fredericksburg! We left Friday after work and came home Sunday night. That equals a lot of good time for just the two of us.


Four years together...and happier than ever!!

We stayed at the Howard Johnson...it used to be the Holiday Inn Express that we typically stay at, but was recently bought out.

When we got into town late Friday evening, we headed over to Hondo's for a night cap. They had live music playing, and we enjoyed a few drinks together. Then we settled in for the night so we'd be rested up for our big day Saturday.

Saturday we did our shopping along the main street...and had lots of success!!! There will be a second post coming about our purchases, there were many! Saturday lunch, we went to the Brewery for some yummy food. After a little more shopping, we decided to have dinner at a place we've never been before called West End Pizza. It was very yummy and also had live music. It was a full, fun, romantic day...loved the time with my hubby!

On the way back to our hotel after our shopping, we noticed a cemetery behind our hotel...I thought this cross was very pretty...

Sunday, we had lunch at Bejas Grill, and finished up our shopping. We found a few more good deals, and then headed out to our favorite winery, Grape Creek. Chris called and scheduled us to take the 3:00 wine cellar tour. As much as he is interested in wine, I can't believe we've never done this before! It was very informative, we learned a lot.

This is step 1, where the grapes are crushed.

Step 2 was in a big warehouse. The grapes go into these big things and stay put for quite a few months. White wines will stay in this stage longer, and then be bottled. Red wines move into the cellar after a number of months, into the barrels.

In the cellar, we were able to taste wine from three different barrels. Apparently the inside of the barrels are charred to different degrees and that affects the taste. Also, there is a difference in taste between American and French barrels. The taste difference was very large. That was fun, and we also got to keep the wine glass...

Step 4 was to bottle the wine, put a cork in, and add the label. And this was our tour guide!

Now this...this was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. This is a chihuahua. And some goats. There were probably 6 goats in this field, and this chihuahua was their leader. He would lead them around the property multiple times a day. He'd walk off a bit, and they'd follow. They'd rest and eat. Then he'd walk off some more, and the cycle would continue. We couldn't believe it! He even slept outside with the goats. He was also the same color as the goats...white with brown spots! At this point, when I took the photo, the chihuahua had come outside the fence and was playing with a water bottle on the side of the road. Then he went back through the fence and led the goats on some more!

We walked over the to the other side of the big common area and found this...we'd never seen it before! After all our trips here, it was fun to still see new things!

Right before we headed out of town to start our journey home, we made a last stop to the very small town of Luckenbach (population 3). This is where Willie Nelson plays. There is a big dance hall here, and this little general store. Not much else to do there, but people sure do pile up there and just hang out.

We picked up two big flower pots at the last stop on our list, and then we headed home. I took this shot of our back seat, filled with all of our goodies!!!

And along our drive home, we were blessed with this gorgeous God-light sky...

Ahhh!

We stopped in Mason at a little hometown restaurant there and had a quick supper. Then finished up our trip to home...what a wonderful few days with my man! I loved every minute of it...
