Well, I had my "hot diggity, we've got a dishwasher!" post all composed in my head...ready to write it as soon as we had the green light!
Of course, nothing ever works out the way it is supposed to.
Normally, stuff like this would have really upset me, really ticked me off. I just can't even muster up a bad thought though, in light of Hurricane Katrina. We're just going to deal with little speed bump for what it is...an inconvenience and a little money.
The dishwasher IS installed. Looks great!!! :) The motor on this one is twice the size of the old one, and it was heavenly to hear it running!! When he turned it on for the test run, that is when he noticed that the pipe underneath the sink is leaking. Has been leaking for awhile. The little curved section is completely rusted out.
Okay, not a biggie. He tells me I can get a replacement pipe at Lowe's, and we're good to go. He even offered to remove it, since he figured it would be difficult with all the rust. And THAT is when he realized that the pipe that the curved pipe is attached to was corroded. So, as he was trying to remove the curved pipe, the other pipe broke off at the corrosion line. That's a bit of a bigger problem.
He offered to go get the parts at Lowes and fix it for us. Not sure how much he'll be charging for all this, but at this point it has to be done. No way around it.
So I sit, waiting for him to return.
Thank god we have a home...a dry shelter...food...water...we are blessed.
{ edited to add:: dishwasher is installed! there's a new pipe under the sink...it didn't cost us an arm and a leg...cue the singing angels! woooo hooo!! ...all is right with our house, for the moment... }

It's always something girl. Always. But you are right, we have to remind ourselves that we have a home and our families and loved ones. That's what matters.
That's exactly right. We live in absolute luxury compared to what these poor people have had to go through this past week. It really puts our minor problems at the end of the scale. We are very lucky to just be here, drive to work, have a roof over our heads....very lucky!
Katrina has for sure been a reality check.
Happy for you for your bit of good news ~ running dishwasher and not a running Kel!
So glad to hear that you got it running and it didn't cost and arm and a leg to repair the pipe. It does make you step back and think about all we have compared to those suffering by hurricane Katrine.
