why

...do people ask you your opinion on something, with absolutely no intention of heeding anything that you say?

If they aren't open to anything besides their own opinion, why are they asking in the first place?

This happened with me twice today, and I realize that this is a pet peeve of mine. Seriously, if you've got your mind made up already, don't bother asking me. It causes me unneeded frustration, and makes me feel like my voice is not worth listening to.

Today's Example #1: "Do you think it would be better to do it THIS way or to do it THAT way?" When I give my answer, the other person states matter-of-factly that he thinks the opposite is the best way, and proceeds to try to sway me to his side. Don't even ask me!!!!

Today's Example #2: "Does this pink shirt go with these pink shorts?" When my answer is "no", I get a look of disbelief, and am questioned, "Well why not? I think it does, and it's the only thing available." Does that fact make it match?? My response of "Why ask then?" only earned me a dirty look. Make it easier on us all...don't even ask me!!!!

I try not to go around voicing my opinions too much...but when I'm asked for them, I try to honestly give them. And it never seems to get me anywhere.

{{Hugs}} I hate this also!! Drives me insane!! This is truly one of the aspects I love about you. You always listen contently....then if I as your opinion or advice you give it to me. Even knowing it may not be the answer I want, you are truthful with me and tell me exactly how you feel. I love this aspect of you!

OOOHHHHH!!! That drives me NUTS!!!! You know I'll certainly give my truthful opinion when asked. And I think that people around here have learned that too, LOL. Keep on asking people why they asked you when they act that way, maybe they'll learn.
