This morning was Aspen's very first trip to the dentist, and it went very well. The lady was very nice to her, explained everything she was doing, showed her how to floss her teeth, etc. Aspen was a little nervous on the way over there, but did very well once we got there. On the way back out to the car, she even announced, "Well, that was fun!"...all the dental ladies got a kick of that one! I'm sure the stickers and the cinnamon flavor helped with that!
Here's the status on her teeth...they are all coming in pretty straight, which is a good thing. She has one cavity on a baby tooth, but it is one that she won't lose for a few more years, so they recommend that it be filled. They also recommend that her back 4 teeth be sealed, to prevent any cavities in the future. That will be the next visit in December...and will cost over $200 just to do that. Schnikie!!!
The bad news is that the front teeth on the top and bottom are growing OUT instead of down. This is because she sucks her tongue while she sleeps, which is a habit we've been trying to break her of. The dentist also discovered that when she swallows, her tongue juts out between her teeth, instead of raising up to the roof of her mouth. He called this tongue thrust. He recommended that we go see a speech therapist, who can help her quit both of these things so that hopefully her teeth will start to grow down. Otherwise, she will need braces.
So next step is a speech therapist. We need to buy lottery tickets!! Life is too expensive...

Here is Ms. Aspen getting her flouride treatment...four minutes of silence from Aspen, definitely a rare thing! And she's waving around her favorite dental tool...the little suction wand. She loved that thing! (and no, they didn't look at me weird at all when I whipped my camera out there!)

Here is Aspen with Dr. Smith, who is checking out her toofers. And you gotta love that Beatles t-shirt! Though she doesn't even know who the heck they are :)
So what do we do when her teeth are cleaner than they've ever been? Go trick-or-treating, of course!!! She came home with quite a bit of loot, and I was able to get a few cute shots of the event...

Most of the shots of the action were blurry or too dark. I like this one of her knocking though...

And look at all the candy...she's one happy girl!
Hope that everyone had a spooky evening! Another Halloween bites the dust...
{ p.s. wasn't able to retake the photos of my layouts from the weekend with all of the Halloween hoopla...so will do that tomorrow! }

Glad to hear that Aspens first visit to the dentist wasn't horrible one. Sounds like she handled it pretty darn well! It is great that your dentist was able to tell you the things he did and you can now begin to work on them, I will keep my fingers crossed the speech therapist isn't an arm and a leg to go to!
Looks like you guys had a great time trick or treating! She was a very pretty witch once again!
OK, the speech therapist thing sucks, BUT hopefully this problem was caught early enough to avoid braces! Glad she handled her first dentist visit so well.
The trick or treat pics are cute! At least you got to GO trick or treating! I didn't even bother taking Ashleigh to Allen & Diane's. She gave her a HUGE sack of age-appropriate goodies before she came home, though. Even an Elmo doll that she loves!
