twist

One of my very favorite things is when I think I have the book I'm reading all figured out, and then wham! A twist hits me. I love that feeling leading up to the twist...where I think, NOW WAIT! I knew what was going to happen...but oh! Now I REALLY know what's happening!

I've been reading, "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult...and it has been a good read. It hasn't been, for me, one of those books you just can't put down. It has taken me a bit to get through it, which is fine. The subject has been a bit of a "downer"...a family with a child dying from leukemia.

But now, I'm at that point where I just can't read fast enough! My step dad Pat used to always know when I was dying to get to the end of a book and wrap it all up, and he would always taunt me, "Are you at the point of your book where you just can't read fast enough??" And then he would proceed to bug me so that I couldn't concentrate on reading!

I'm ready to finish it up and see all the pieces come together. I love watching all the pieces fit together at the end...that's why I love John Irving books so much. His stories are woven with intricate details, that all wind up meaning something at the end, coming together to create a fabulous conclusion. Does he have a new book out? I need to check!!

Anyway...I'm off to finish my book!!!

{edited to add: HOLY CRAP! It had a DOUBLE twist! I am still reeling from the ending. Again I thought I had it all worked out, and was prepared to just finish it off...and then I was completely blindsided. Crap!!! I didn't like that ending ONE BIT!! }

I've also read that book and was completely surprised by the ending. I didn't like it either! But it's a good read.

A child dying with lukemia? No thank you. Give me some psycho serial killers any day! ; )

And I'll admit, when I don't like the way a book ends, it totally ticks me off. Like....was it Mother of Pearl? I won't say anything else unless someone else is reading it.
