Last week, the day of the big party, everyone at work attended a seminar on Personal Accountability. John Miller was the keynote speaker, and he's the author of the book "QBQ: The Question Behind the Question"...Very interesting stuff. Good stuff to hear. Our company was generous enough to provide us all with his book after the seminar, and I am looking forward to reading it. His main theme is that instead of getting ticked off because someone else did something wrong, reflect back on yourself and ask what YOU could've done to prevent or help the situation.
Here are a few tidbits I jotted down in my notes while listening to him:
:: Sometimes the best thing we can say is NOTHING.
:: Addicted to life is NOT denial of problems.
:: We tend to teach what we need to hear ourselves.
:: Stress is a choice.
:: Loyalty is good, entitlement is bad.
:: I own the result, no excuses.
:: Don't blame that which is out of our control.
:: All problems are in the past, the solution in now.
:: Circle of Blame -- one leads to the next, but it only takes one person to break the circle.
:: You lose if you try to change someone.
:: How can I let go of that which I can't control?
:: It's always nice to say, "I appreciate you just the way you are."
:: True service is doing something you don't have to.
:: Humility is the cornerstone of leadership.
:: The grass is never greener somewhere else.
::Believe or leave.
:: Learning=Changing
Some good points...some good things to ponder on. Give these some thought. Who have you blamed lately? What could you have done to change a situation? Do you learn something and change, or listen to something and go on being the way you were? What do you think you are entitled to? Why do you think that?
And big news flash! You can't change people. They have to want to change, but even then, we should accept people "just the way they are"...love them or don't. Believe or leave.
Some good food for thought...
