Visiting hours...a cycle of seeing the same people ride the elevator up to the second floor...walking down the hall through the smell of hospital...that unsure feeling of not knowing what we will see when we round the corner into ICU Room 8...and thankfully, everyday, being overjoyed at seeing progress...
It's Saturday night...Mimi has now been in ICU for three whole days. So I thought I would update real quick on where things stand right now. It's been a very long few days. I've never dealt with something like this before, and it's draining. And sad. And uplifting. And tiring. And and and.
As of 9:00 this evening, Mimi is doing much, much better. Chris was able to spend about an hour and a half with her, just the two of them. That was so needed. The tube is out of her throat, the tube is out of her nose, she's breathing very well on her own, she's talking, she's even a little sassy now and then. Have seen her laugh a few times. Have seen her cry quite a bit. Have kissed her more in three days than in the three years that I've known her. She's extremely sore from all the coughing she did while that tube was down her throat, and she's becoming real sore from laying in the same position for so long. And she's weak. They're working with her though, and they think she'll move from ICU into a normal room, maybe tomorrow. There was a different doctor on call this weekend, and Mimi really liked him. My friend's wife actually works for him, he's a great doctor from India. He is working with Mimi to determine what medicines will be best for her after she leaves the hospital. Something to keep this from happening again, and something to help her in case it does happen. And when he asked her if she has medical insurance, and she said no, he said, "Well, medicine is expensive, and I take care of it for you." Well!
Things are definitely on a positive road forward. She's got to work to get stronger now, and concentrate on getting better...and then once out of the hospital, she will need GREAT support in her process of quitting smoking. That is a must. MUST.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! I wasn't always 50% sure that this would have a positive outcome...thank god, thank god...

I am so glad to hear that MiMi is on the road to recovery. YOu all have been on my mind since she went to the hospital.
I am so glad to hear that this doctor is going to work with her since she doesn't have insurance. I pray that the rest of the doctors/hospital will work with her as well on this!
Keeping my fingers crossed that she is able to come home SOON
