I love Martha Stewart! As I mentioned, I received her JUMBO housekeeping book for my birthday, and so far I have made it through the "kitchen" chapter.
Wow. So much information in there. Information overload. There were things I never knew, things I've been doing wrong. I thought I'd share a handful of info with you, in case you didn't know either. Share the wealth, yes?? :)
:: The best cleaning supply to use is a handmade one, 2 cups water mixed with 2 tbs of mild, clear dish soap. Mix it up in a spray bottle.
:: Soften mineral deposits by covering them in a paper towel soaked in either white vinegar or lemon juice.
:: Don't store spices or oils near the stove or oven. The heat takes the flavors out.
:: Flush the kitchen drain weekly with 1 gallon of boiling water to keep pipes clear. Pour half in, wait 5 minutes, then pour the rest in.
:: Run cold water with the garbage disposal.
:: Small bones and fruit pits are good for the garbage disposal.
:: Never heat plastic in the microwave, even if it's "microwave safe". That just means it won't melt, but it could still leak chemicals into the food.
:: Put baking soda in the fridge and freezer to absorb odors. Still it up once a week. Change out the box every three months.
Just some odds and ends. Maybe you knew these things, maybe not...at any rate, I'm digging my new book!!! :)

That's some great info to share! I didn't know that about spices. I've got some that have been sitting on my stove a while because I use them often!
looked at the book at BAM (saw it on your wish list) I thought it would be way cool! And it looks like it is. I had heard of a couple of those things, but mostly not. Interesting stuff there! I should get the book.. I may become domesticated yet!
