ten ugly foods

Hello all...today's topic? TEN UGLY FOODS

Tosca's Eat Clean book lists ten specific foods that are horrible horrible horrible for you. Perhaps if you aren't quite ready to take the leap and eat clean, you can still try to cut these items out of your daily diet. Small steps...

UGLY FOOD #1: DONUTS
Even the humblest donut has 490 calories and 30 grams of fat. With sugar, jelly and whipped cream, it jumps to 600 calories and 35 grams of fat. This one donut eats up a huge portion of your daily calories, so what are you going to eat for the rest of the day?

UGLY FOOD #2: MARSHMALLOW FLUFF
One teaspoon has 60 calories, but most people eat much more than that. Termed "white poison", it is nothing but junk. Not one speck of nutritional value to be found. Might as well call this "chemical puff".

UGLY FOOD #3: COLAS, SODAS, CARBONATED BEVVIES
Has 7-9 teaspoons of refined sugar. That's a whole lot. Fake sweeteners like Splenda are detrimental to health. Sodas have harmul chemicals and preservatives.

UGLY FOOD #4: BACON, DELI MEATS, PROCESSED MEATS
Huge fat content in all of these. A diet high in animal fats is linked to heart disease. Most processed meats contain a chemical soup of preservatives that are implicated as culprits in disease like cancer.

UGLY FOOD #5: SUGAR LOADED BREAKFAST CEREALS

Loads of sugar. And many people add even more to their bowls. Most cereals also have a hefty amount of trans fats.

UGLY FOOD #6: FRUIT JUICES & FAKE FRUIT DRINKS
Loaded with sugar. For example, a real orange is packed with fiber. A 12 ounce glass of orange juice has 36 grams of carbs, most of which is from fructose, a simple sugar. This will send your insulin levels through the roof, and then cause you to crash. Fake fruit drinks are even worse as they have more refined sugar and food coloring.

UGLY FOOD #7: JUNK FOOD
Potato chips, buttered popcorn, deep-fried snacks, etc. Empty calories, loads of trans fat, loads of sodium.

UGLY FOOD #8: CANDY, CANDY FLOSS, COTTON CANDY
What food group do these things belong in? There is no nutrional value. Calorie-dense, sugar-loaded, health-destroying.

UGLY FOOD #9: FRENCH FRIES
No matter how you like your fries (doused in ketsup, smothered in cheese, etc), you're looking toward a heart attack or stroke along with a big fat belly. They are cooked in vats of oil with loads of trans fat and free radicals.

UGLY FOOD #10: TWINKIES
It is joked that Twinkies are made with so many preservatives they do no decompose in garbage dumps. They "stay fresh forever"...just imagine what kinds of chemicals these sponge cake treats are doused with. If they don't decompose in a dump, what do you think they're doing in your body??

My diet used to contain many of the items above. I loved junk food like chips and candy. I've admitted to being a sugar addict. You pretty much can't beat a Dr. Pepper. Delicious McDonalds french fries. Crispy bacon. Cocoa Krispies and Fruit Loops...after reading all of the above, do I want to put these health hazards into my body? Nope. It's the only body I've got.

Kelley! Oh no I feel awful...I drink sodas a lot...both of my kids drink a ton of apple juice...love french fries and donuts...ugh....I am working on cutting sodas out, but I am addicted...the kids live on apple juice around here....so I have some work to do it seems...thanks for the info, although I am not sure it made me feel better, but informed...
