wine guy

Many of you know, I have a little thing for old men...they are just too cute. :) I often tell Chris that I can't wait for HIM to be an old man, he's going to be adorable!

While in Fredericksburg for our anniversary weekend, we were on a mission to find a wine that we both liked. And after spending some time at three different wineries (
Grape Creek, Torre di Pietra, and Becker Vineyards), we did find ONE wine that we both absolutely love. A dessert wine, very sweet, without that nasty wine aftertaste. YUM. We found it at Grape Creek, and it's called Muscat Canelli. Again, Yum-O!

Grape Creek was our favorite vineyard of the three, for sure. It had a great relaxed atmosphere, and seemed so peaceful. It was also a beautiful place, and we enjoyed sitting out on the flagstone patio to soak it all in. I believe we will visit this place every time we return to Fredericksburg, we liked it that much. In our opinion, the Torre di Pietra was a bit hoity toity and pompous. Becker was very pretty, but they didn't have a wine that we liked.

Becker did, however, have the above old man in their tasting room. We stepped up to his line, and he proceeded to give us a sampling of their different wines. And then he got to talking with us, and as the people around us disappeared, we were chatting like old friends. He was telling us about his wife, and we were telling him that we were celebrating our first anniversary. He just opened up to us and we thought he was very sweet. He even gave us both a hug before we left...came all the way around the table in order to do so. He let me take all the photos I wanted, and even offered to take a shot of us together. Very great human being.

AND...I will forever be indebted to him for a little snippet he shared with us. He said that one of his favorite treats was to put some fresh grapes in the freezer and eat them frozen. Sounded good to us, and we vowed to try it. Just yesterday, we finally got around to putting some grapes in our freezer. And the first bite today?

HEAVEN.

I took a bite and then loudly exclaimed, "THIS TASTES LIKE ICE CREAM!!!!"

I was very excited, as you can imagine. Ice cream is my favorite food group. So for something healthy like grapes to taste like that makes my day! Now, I haven't had junk food or sweets in a very long time, so it's possible that is why it tasted so fabulous to me. But, delish. DELISH!

You can bet your bottom dollar I will always have some grapes in the freezer from now on, and that I will enjoy two or three after dinner every night. Oh yes I will.

So thank you to the Becker wine tasting man...I don't remember his name, but I do remember how he touched our lives for a brief moment, and how his helpful hint will be with us for a very long time.

Cheers to the wine guy!
