Oh glorious day! Very chilly and very windy...but definitely a day to remember forever...
The District Cross County meet was today, in Breckenridge. We followed the bus there on an hour long drive, and got familiar with the course. They were doing two miles, and because of the wind, the officials decided to run the boys and girls together for each age group. There ended up being three schools in our district, so we were excited to see how the race went.
At 4:00, the gun went off...and the runners took off. Aspen had a very good start, and look very relaxed. By the time I saw her at the next point, she was right behind the first girl, staying close. Mile one ended, mile two began. For the first bit, the lead girl looked strong, but by the time I saw them again, Aspen had taken over the lead. And proceeded to put quite a gap on her. Coming into the final turn, Aspen was right behind the first and second place boys, and almost beat them too!! She had a lead of at least 100 meters on the second place girl when she crossed the finish line in FIRST PLACE!!!!
Our girl is #1 in her district!!! Do you realize how exciting that is???
We could not be more proud of her. It is so wonderful to watch her have success in her life, to watch her work so hard for something and for her to realize that that does pay off in the end. Another medal for her collection.
This is a photo of her right at the finish, smiling so big as she realizes that she is the big winner...

Directly after this shot, she began crying, even before crossing the line. Her emotions were raw and she was just overjoyed with herself! It was wonderful to see...not only are we proud of her, but she is proud of herself. And that is very important...

#1...you can still see her teary eyes a little here. And there's proud daddy too...he ran most of the course with her, and I'm sure he's becoming known as "that crazy dad!" I am so glad that he is able to run it with her, because I think the encouragment is really good for her along the course. Plus, I think he might possibly implode if he had to stand still and just watch! :)
A wonderful day in the life of Aspen. She is having a great year so far. Did I mention that she also had all A's and one B on her recent report card?? And the B was an 89...so close to all A's. She is definitely having her best year in a long time. I love to see it.
Aspen...we love you! And are so so proud. You have natural talent and if you continue to put in the hard work, there is no telling where this will take you. Wherever that is, you can be positive that your daddy and I will be right there with you, cheering you on...
