the best day

Today was Day #1 of my week off work...ahhhhhhhhh...I had the best day, very productive. And even had lunch with Kim too! Then met up with the family at the junior high for another basketball game...the girls pulled out a win, but it was a very long game. Two hours. There are 4 seven minute quarters, so you do the math. Lots and lots of fouls called. The above photo of Aspen is one of about 3 that I got that were not blurry. Anybody have any stellar advice on taking sport photos inside a horribly lit gymnasium??

Another addition to my "best day"? I made a delicious new recipe for dinner, and I'm going to share it here with you because it was so yummy! I got this out of a magazine my mom bought while I was in town...it seemed pretty "clean", so I wrote it down and decided to give it a try...let me know if you try it, and if you like it!

---------------------------------------------------------
Slow Cooker Wild Rice with Cranberries

1.5 cups uncooked wild rice (I used Kashi pilaf)
1 tbs melted butter
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 cup sliced green onions
1 4.5 oz jar sliced mushrooms
28 oz veggie broth
1/2 slivered almonds
1/3 cup dried cranberries

Combine all ingredients except for almonds and cranberries into your crockpot. Cook on Low for 5 hours.

In a skillet, brown almonds. Stir almonds and cranberries into rice 15 minutes before serving.

Mmm mmm!!

One more "best day" tidbit for you...click on the link below and take a listen to this song:

We bought the new Taylor Swift cd over the weekend, and it's got a lot of really good songs on it. On the drive home, I read through the lyrics of all the songs...and when we got home, I listened to them all. The linked song above really made my heart feel sweet. Almost made me cry a little. And I'm not the weepy sort.

I know you were on my side even when I was wrong
And I love you for giving me your eyes
Staying back and watching me shine and I didn't know if you knew
So I'm taking this chance to say that I had the best day with you today...

This song reminds me of my childhood with my mom...she made life so good.

I love you, Mom...
