brownwood track meet

We spent all day Saturday at a track meet in Brownwood, TX, which is about an hour and a half away. Aspen's first race was at 10:30, and then she ran the last two races of the meet later in the afternoon...

She had a fabulous day...we are so proud of her, yet again!

First she ran the mile and a half...and this week, she had some competition from a girl from Fredericksburg. It was so nice to see her pushed, because she truly excelled. She and this girl ran together the entire race, trading off with the lead. In the 6th and final lap, Aspen turned on her kick and outran her by 40 or so yards. Very exciting! It's so great to see her run full out, she has such a pretty stride.

Her second race was the mile...and she was up against the same girl. The girl took the first lap at a very fast clip, and Aspen was a bit concerned...but it played out like the mile and half, in that she started her kick with about 300 yards to go, and smoked her.

And right after the mile, she was part of the mile relay. This was her first time running this race, and it was pretty exciting. She ran the third leg and her time was great. Their relay was in the lead until right at the very end, and they ended up coming in second.

All in all, a super day for Ms. Aspen...and because of her efforts, the 7th grade girls came in first place at the meet! Even better :) I bought a monopod on Friday and it was kind of awkward using it during the meet. However, almost all of the photos I took using the monopod were crisp and clear. Hardly any blurry ones. I took pics of the relay without it, and there were a lot of blurry ones from that. Just need to get used to using the monopod and I think it will be a great tool...

The rest of our weekend was good too. Nothing too noteworty, but relaxing and nice weather. Tomorrow morning, I'm getting my dermatologist procedure done at 8:00. Hopefully it will just take one round, but it could take a few. We'll see how it goes...
