best surprise ever

As I said yesterday, I have the absolute best husband in the entire world!!! He pulled off a huge surprise for my birthday, and gets major brownie points!

So...

Last week, my mom told me that she had mailed off my birthday present, and that she had mailed it to work. I looked for it Monday and Tuesday, but it didn't come. I've been so busy at work, and on Wednesday I spent most of my day in our equipment room with the printer. Around 3:00 or so, the phone in the equipment room rang and my boss answered it. Handed the phone to me...it was our mail guy Alvino, and he told me that I had a big package delivered.

Woo hoo! I exclaimed, "It's my birthday present from my mom, yay!" I headed back to the mailroom, with my coworkers in tow. I rounded the corner...

And there stood my mom!!!

My mind thought, "Oh, there's my mom.." and then a moment later it thought, "What? THAT'S MY MOM!" I began squealing and jumping down and she started squealing and jumping down and we hugged and hugged and laughed. Oh, I wish that someone had a video of that whole reaction! The entire building heard us squealing! I turned and looked at Chris and he was smiling from ear to ear...the master mind of the entire operation!!!!

My boss, Jeff, had the best idea to grab his camera, and he captured these two photos, which I love...pure joy on our faces...such happiness! And us with my sweet, sweet husband, who set the whole birthday surprise up!

Three weeks of planning...a number of people in on the surprise, including my boss, Jeff...he had to approve days off for Thursday and Friday for me, and shift my work to my coworker...so, on top of a visit from my mom, I am also not at work!!! :) Yippie!!! I am so proud of everyone for keeping it a secret for so long...because I had absolutely zero idea or inkling about any of this. I've never been so surprised in my life! My heart was pounding out of my chest and my mind just immediately started working, trying to figure it all out...things started to make sense...why Chris was cleaning house on a Tuesday evening...why Aspen had super cleaned her bedroom over the weekend...why our department hadn't had any meetings to delegate jobs...all kinds of little random things over the past weeks that seemed insignificant but now that I knew the end result, all made perfect sense...

This is probably a gift that can never be topped...having my mom here with me is the greatest gift! This is the first year in a very very long time (probably since high school) that I have been with my mother on my actual birthday. That is so exciting to me! My mom is my biggest supporter...my biggest fan...being with her is like being home, and there's no feeling like that...

Today was our first day of fun together...had such a great, relaxing day!!!!

We both slept late and had a leisurely breakfast...then got ready, and headed to the Beauty School where Mimi works, and were treated to pedicures and manicures...so relaxing and fun! Now we have hot pink nails, and I even got fun and funky zebra stripes on mine! From there, we headed for lunch at the best chinese restaurant in town, Sczhuan's...yum! From there, we wandered around the city...some of the cute little stores in town, the book store, and then to get our hair done. I got about 4 inches cut off and feel sooooo much better. Ahh. Why do I let it grow so dang long?

Day one was wonderful! And I am very excited for Day two as well!!! We had the great brainstorm to head to the park with a blanket and some snacks, where we plan to find a big shade tree and read our books for hours. That is always something that I associate with utter relaxation, and never end up doing. She is the best person to do that with, as we both love to read. We had wanted to see "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past", but it doesn't come out until May 1. Blah!! We'll find plenty to keep us going...just spending time together is the best...

Chris, thank you thank you thank you!!!! What a birthday!!! I love you!
