weekend and sadness

:: Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! Hope you enjoyed some romance...

:: Chris and I may go out to dinner this evening to celebrate...it depends. We are also waiting to exchange gifts until a little later...I am excited to give his gifts to him!

:: This weekend was the "Living Room Floor" weekend...Friday evening, Chris and I did demolition...tore up the carpet, tore up the padding, scraped off the glue bits, removed the nailed strip along the edges. Took all evening and was hard work...went to bed with a cement floor and sore muscles...

:: Saturday, our friend Greg arrived around 9:30 am and the boys got started on installing the new hard wood floor. They worked all day and stopped around 8:00 pm. He came back on Sunday around 1:30 pm and they are still going at it at 6:30 pm. So, dinner depends on them finishing...we shall see! The floor looks amazing!!!!!!!!!! Our living room looks twice the size it did with the light carpet, which it desperately needed because it isn't too big to begin with. I will post photos tomorrow, once it is complete and we've got all the furniture back in. So pretty...

:: We're also pretty sad here in our household...our beloved Boxer, Foster, passed away on Thursday evening...

With Little Man's health deteriorating lately, we've all been trying to prepare ourselves for his passing...but Foster surprised us. He was almost 11 years old, and still in fairly good health it seemed...but I guess 10 is old for a Boxer.

He acted weird all evening, doing things like trying to hide under tables, pacing the house, seeming like he had to throw up. Finally, around 8:30 or so, it was just he and I in the living room. He was acting sick, so I let him outside. About two minutes later, I opened the door to let him back in (it was snowing and very cold), he wasn't standing there. I called his name, and nothing. I turned on all the outside lights and couldn't see him anywhere. So, I put on my coat and boots and headed out to look for him. His tracks circled the entire yard, and I eventually found him in a far corner of our yard, where the light couldn't reach him. He was laying peacefully near the fence corner, with his head resting in the snow. Aspen and I ran to him and it was such a surreal moment...the world went silent in my ears, and I just knew. I laid my hand on him to feel for breath, and there was nothing. So I sent Aspen in to get Chris while I head his head up out of the snow.

It was hard to say goodbye to Foster...he was Chris' first indoor pet, and he had had him since he was a puppy. He was also very close with Mimi...he had a very protective nature toward her, lead her around the house, etc. He was such a good boy...he will be missed.

He was always happiest when all four of us were home and in our places. Then he could relax and settle down for the evening. If one of us was gone, he would be antsy and pace the house. I think dogs are amazing in how they KNOW when it is their time. Foster knew. All four of us were home and all was right as far as he was concerned. I let him outside and he wandered the entire yard, making sure everything was safe and as it should be for the last time. Then he circled his chosen area a few times before settling down, peacefully. I'm so glad it was peaceful. The snow helped us to know exactly how things happened...

Goodbye, Foster Roo...

With tears in eyes...goodbye Foster...those four legged critters, it is amazing what they do for us in life and then how they know when to tell us goodbye.

I am so sad about Foster, my Pal. I loved that boy. I am so glad I got to see him just a few days before!
