The Law of Priority: For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother.

Before marriage, the most important relationship bond is with one's parents. But with marriage, God intends for us to relingquish the highest position of commitment and devotion from parents in order to give that position to his wife. To avoid problems in marriage, one must not allow anyone or anything to replace the priority of one's spouse. (This does not include God...God should be #1, your spouse #2).

We need to understand that our spouses do not measure love by what they hear. Although very important for one to speak loving and affirming words to the other often, their ultimate standard of measure for love is "How important am I to you compared to the other things in your life?" Time and energy must be budgeted just like your money. The first part should go to God and the second part to your spouse. Everything else should fall after those. Your children are more important than almost everything in your lives, however they are not as important as God or spouses. Children will grow up and leave home one day, and then what kind of marriage will you be left with when they are gone?

How often do you place your spouse before the other things in your life? Or even before yourself? In God's eyes, marriage is the most imporant thing in the world after Him. It deserves our time and our energy and our hard work. Every single day...
