#35

As I mentioned, I never did post about my birthday this year! #35 came in with a bang, that's for sure!!

The week prior to my birthday, Chris and I spent a lovely vacation in the gorgeous land of Maui. We flew back on a freezing cold airplane for 8 hours, and fully expected the jet lag to come. Mine came, for sure...and so did a horrible sickness!

I had a sore throat, headache, congestion, cough. But the worst of it was fever. I had a fever in the 103s for two solid days. I couldn't shake it. The doctor diagnosed me with a severe sinus infection, which I don't necessarily agree with. I have had more than my fair share of sinus problems in my life, and I have never once had fever with any of it.

We decided to celebrate on Saturday, the day before my birthday, since my actual birthday was on Easter Sunday. I grocery shopped in the afternoon, and while at the store began to feel bad. By the time I got home and unloaded the food, I was feeling pretty icky. I sucked it up and we went to Szchuan's for my birthday dinner...sadly, I couldn't taste much of it, but my family tried to make the most of it for me. We came back and had my birthday treat (yummy chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles -- this was during my "week of sugar" that began in Maui!) and opened gifts.

I received such lovely gifts, including this perfume above. Gucci Flora. I'm not a big perfume person, but this one is wearable and smells really nice. My big gift, of course, was my Android phone, but I also received some gift cards and a great hot pink carry all bag. And don't I look beautiful in this pic...right before the worst of it, but already feeling like crud.

I thank my family for making my day special, even if I was only half there in wellness!!!

My work family also made my birthday special...twice! I feel so bad for that...I totally ruined their birthday plans because I was home sick on the Monday they planned to celebrate. Allison had made hummingbird muffins (which are made with honey instead of sugar)...Chris brought them home to me after work, and they had the most adorable bird embellishments on top. They had planned to take me to lunch at a great tea cafe downtown, and I was very bummed to miss that. However, when I returned to work, they came up with a second celebration idea and it was just as good!

They brought the tea party to me! Faith made the prettiest petit fours complete with glitter...she is becoming quite the baker, and I couldn't pass up trying one after all her hard work for me. They were delicious, but decadently sweet!!!

They had pound cake and strawberries as well. It was very girlie! Faith even brought in her tea set and we all sipped on Earl Grey tea, which is my fave. I must honestly be the most open book out there, because everyone in my life knows me so well.

So gorgeous!! The glitter was impressive...

So, even though being sick and feverish on my birthday was the least fun thing I can imagine, my birthday still ended up being quite memorable. I am blessed with so many people in my life who are good people and who are good to me. I am a lucky girl...

I am bummed though...one of my favorite traditions is to take a birthday portrait of each birthday person in our household every year. No portrait was taken of me this year. Too sick on the actual day, and then the two weeks following I had a horribly red and scabby nose from so much Kleenex action. :( Oh well...
