This is a great little series of books for girls...currently, we are reading "The Care and Keeping of YOU" with Aspen, and it has so much good information in it. Tells her things she needs to know about taking care of herself, all the things we take for granted as second nature but that really need to be learned by these girls: eating right, washing her face, body image, etc.
And...periods.
Did I ever imagine that I would be having this talk with a little girl??? You'd better believe I didn't!! The book went into a lot of detail, and it was helpful to be able to read from it and explain things as we went along. There were even graphic diagrams of the tampon experience...which of course sent Ms. Aspen into hysterical dramatics! She was full of questions that I tried to answer openly and honestly. I want her to feel like it's okay to talk about this stuff with me, even though I'm way out of my element!!!
After we'd tucked her in, Mimi snuck over to me said, "I'm so glad you're here to talk about this stuff...I wouldn't know where to begin!!!"
I'm trying to just remember how I was at her age...scared of the idea of it, unsure, full of questions, excited to get it started. Trying to remember some of the silly things I did so that I can tell them to her, maybe ease some of her worries and at the same time keep her from doing the same things!
My friend Kim is actually a great resource for me. We talk about a lot of things like this, and Kim helps me a lot. Her daughter Kelsey is 11 years old, so she's able to share some wisdom about things that Aspen is just beginning. I am very grateful for Kim!
I'm out of my element, but trying my hardest!

Aww thanks Kelley! Makes me feel good to hear you say I am a great reference. I am not sure I agree, but if you are getting something helpful out of me then I am glad to hear it!
I am going to look into getting this book. It sounds like a very informative book, and explains things better then this momma can! :)
This definitely sounds like a good book to have! It will be years before I need it, but at the same time, it will be here before I know it.
