Our Saturday was awesome...to be in the crowd in Dallas watching Linkin Park perform...we felt lucky, to be honest. The show was PHENOMENAL. Linkin Park was PHENOMENAL.
Projekt Revolution had 10 bands total, beginning at 2:00. It was a very, very long afternoon in the boiling Texas sun, that's for sure. When I asked you all what I should wear to the concert, I don't think I mentioned that it was a nine-hour affair, beginning at the height of the afternoon heat. So, where options of cute black boots, cute black heels, and bluejeans were right on for a nice concert in an air conditioned theater in the evening, I had to make some alterations for the heat. What did I decide on?
:: Dark jeans, no tears or rips -- Not very edgy (& should've gone with shorts)
:: White tank with clear sequins -- Subtle flair
:: Necklace on silver bead chain -- Fairly edgy
:: HUGE silver hoop earrings -- Pretty edgy
:: Black flip flops -- Standard
:: Navy blue nail polish -- Super edgy
Really, it ended up not even mattering what I wore. Linkin Park appeals to such a wide array of people types, I could've worn anything and fit in just fine. There were the goths and the girls in barely anything and the older demo (yes, I'm in that!), and the tattoo-covered folks. It was just a very diverse group.
In hindsight, Chris and I feel that we could have come to the concert around 5:00 and skipped the first 5 bands. Five played on the side stage first, and that was set up on the parking lot. No shade, no coverage. Just a bunch of people being cooked on ashphalt. Not great. Soaked in sweat. Direly HOT. I will tell you, though, the secret to looking fresh (meaning no sweat stains on the clothes) in the miserable Texas heat: double tank tops. The bottom layer gets wet, the top layer stays nice. My little secret... :)
At 5:00, the other 5 bands played. This is when we were all allowed to move into the open-air theater. We took our seats toward the back of the theater, and watched them. They were okay. Chris Cornell was the last to perform before Linkin Park came on, and he was pretty good. It turned out that I even knew some of his songs. He sings "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun", both of which are from my high school days.

Here is Chris in our seats...this was during the first Main Stage band...

Here I am in front of the side stage...roasting on the parking lot...
And then...at 9:00...LINKIN PARK!!! All of the cutely dressed girls arrived right before they came on. The girls wearing the jeans and the black silky halter tops and the black high heels. They were not wilted and smelly and sticky from sweat. Oh how nice for them!
Like I said, Linkin Park was PHENOMENAL. Chris was over the moon. He has loved this band forever, and he couldn't believe that they were RIGHT THERE. And they sounded great. It was loud and fun and we danced and we sang along. It kind of surprised me just how well I know the songs...that kind of music is not my cup of tea AT ALL, but I do love me some Linkin Park. I sang my little heart out with them. I had sooo much fun. And Chris did too...I do believe he was in heaven!
And Chester? The lead singer of Linkin Park? Did you realize that he went to school at Julliard? So, that should tell you how awesome he is. When he's screaming, it's very controlled screaming :)

Glad you had a great time...sorry I would have not said jeans, but missed the outside starting at 2 part...whoops...glad it was worth the heat!
I am so glad that you guys had such a 'phenomenal' time! That makes all the Texas heat worth it! What a perfect gift you gave him, I'd say!
