school and pups

Today was Aspen's first day of 8th grade...her last year in junior high. The year to be "big dog"...I hope with all my heart that she has a really good year. Good grades. Good running. Good friends. I don't know if any of us can take another year like last year. Any little prayers you might say for our family would be appreciated!!

As is tradition, Chris took Aspen to school for her first day...she was kind enough to pose for me before they took off. Didn't she look cute? Probably the only day of the school year that she'll have her hair down. Hmm...she DOES take after me on some things...

Seems like she had a good day and that she'll like her schedule. Fingers crossed, fingers crossed. May Aspen make many good choices this year.

Headed off to school with her binder...

Doesn't she look so grown up here? It stopped me in my tracks when I uploaded it.

With her daddy...look how tall she is getting...they are standing on the slanting driveway, and Chris is on the higher section!

In other news...my poor pup. Ocho had to make a visit to the after-hours vet this evening.

At 5:15 this morning, he was up and restless. I took him out to potty and then put him back in the bed. That didn't last long. He just couldn't get settled, so I got him up and off he went. At lunch, he was acting like his stomach hurt. He was all drawn up, tail tucked in, even yelping a little. He would sit or lay down and then almost immediately hop up. Over and over again. Same when I got home from work. When he yelped when I picked him up, I decided a trip to the vet was probably in order. After an examination, the vet determined that he might have stones in his bladder that are causing him pain. He had a fever and the vet could feel something "stone-like". He gave him a shot for the pain to help him get some rest and relax this evening, and then I need to make an appointment for as soon as possible tomorrow to have xrays to see if it is stones. Poor little guy. It is so sad to watch him. He won't lay down, he lays there with his butt up in the air. Making sad little whiny noises. We'll see what Dr. Bolt has to say...and what the xrays show. They said that stones are common in small dogs, and that some are passable. But that some require surgery. Ug.

Keep Mr. Ocho in your thoughts!!

Happy school year Aspen - make it a good one! So grown up.

Poor Ocho - hate to see an animal in pain. Hoping the Vet can make him have happier days ahead.

OH no, I hope Ocho feels better soon...poor little guy!
Aspen looks beautiful and yes, very grown up! I hope this is a great year for her too and she enjoys all the aspects of school. Growing up is never easy....on the parents or the kiddos!
