and more!

:: Sunday, May 27 -- this was the last full day we had to spend with Mom and Randy...so we filled it with goodness! We spent the morning on the beach, bobbing in the waves and getting some sun. Then after lunch in the condo and a little reprieve from the sun/heat, we headed back out to the beach for the afternoon. By that point, I think we had all had our fill of sun, sand, and waves. Aspen began feeling sick from all the wave movement and spent the afternoon in the condo napping. No cruises in her future I don't think!! We all took showers and got pretty, and then we headed to dinner at Jake's Grill -- steaks and seafood. Then we decided to stop at the Gulf State Park Pier...it was interesting! First off we saw a group of dolphins playing in the surf, which was fun! Then we took the long walk down the pier, trying to dodge the people who were fishing and throwing out their lines. There were so many people fishing, it was crazy. And some had caught some large fish!! The view was beautiful, and worth the few bucks to get in. From there, we stopped at Bruster's Real Ice Cream for dessert -- yum! It was a nice cool treat to finish off our evening. Back at the room, Mom and I played rummy and furthered our ongoing score that we've had since 1995 :) And yes, she continued to kick my bootie :(

:: Monday, May 28 -- Memorial Day!! Mom and Randy got on the road early (by 8:30 a.m.) to drive their long drive home...and it was sad to say goodbye! It's always sad to part ways with my mom, since we only get to see each other a few times a year. But, we are so glad that we were able to vacation together!!!! For our last full day here, we decided to make the short drive to Pensacola, FL...and along the way I spotted a scrapbook store! One that was actually still in business!! (Which is rare these days). They had a bunch of my favorite things, and their prices were good too. So I bought a good pile of things. From there we headed to downtown Pensacola and walked the cute streets there. Not too much was open, beyond food...so we stopped into Adonna's Bakery for some pre-lunch treats - I had the champaigne cupcake with chocolate icing; Aspen had the red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing; and Chris had the bread pudding. Yum! Then we had lunch at HopJacks, a pub. We had pizza and enjoyed the vibe there. Then visited another pier before heading to the National Naval Aviation Museum. We spent a good amount of time wandering through all the displays and taking it all in. It was a great thing to do in celebration of Memorial Day! Then we stopped in at the Pensacola Lighthouse. Aspen and I climbed up 177 stairs in a winding staircase to the very top and had some awesome views from there...and we waved at Chris who was safe and sound on the ground!!! It was a fun first...never been up in a lighthouse before, and it was still an active one too. From there we took the jaunt back to Gulf Shores, and rested a bit in the condo. Then walked to get souveniers and had dinner at The Hangout again. The band was no bueno, so we didn't stay too long after we ate. And now, we relax...

Our trip here is winding down. Tomorrow we have to check out by 11:00 am, and then we will begin our journey home. We may stop off in New Orleans for a day or so...and then on to home after that. We have had such a great vacation so far!!! And we still have three more days off work!!!!
