date night & a scare

Date Night

Chris and I had a date night on Friday evening...it was so nice to spend some one-on-one time together! We had a yummy dinner at Johnny Carinos, and then headed to the movies to watch You, Me & Dupree...

We thought the movie was pretty funny! We did quite a bit of laughing. Owen Wilson takes the cake for comedy...I love him!

And a word on Kate Hudson...I think she's gorgeous....but in this movie you really see just how extremely flat chested!! I mean, she's got nothin! But the rest of her is beautiful...she's thin and toned and you'd never know she had a baby...

We were in high spirits from our wonderful evening together...until we got home.

A Scare

Before we had left earlier for dinner, Ocho was outside playing in the backyard. When I went out to get him, I noticed him pouncing around after some sort of bug. Only too late did I realize that it was probably a bee. Realized it when he caught it, and shook his head, and tore off around the yard, ending up under the tree burying his nose in the grass.

Uh oh.

I went over and checked him out. He seemed fine. I couldn't see any stinger, at least. So off we went to the movie. By the time we got home around 10:00, his neck and chin area were all swelled up.

Well, we got scared that the swelling was going to cause his airway to close up. So I called the emergency vet, and we took him in. They confirmed that he had been stung by a bee, and gave him a shot to reduce the swelling. They also recommended that we give him a Benedryl when we got home, just to be safe.

$104 later, we were assured of Ocho's safety and were on our way home.

And we learned some things...#1, the vet said that dogs react to things differently than humans. Our lungs and airway are affected first, whereas with a dog, their skin reacts first. So they usually swell up or show odd behaviors on their skin. #2, he said that dogs have a high tolerance for Benedryl, so where one pill makes me groggy, it doesn't do much to a dog. Interesting stuff.

Ocho was pretty restless all night...he wouldn't lay down to sleep for the longest time. I think he was trippin from his drugs, because he just sat there staring into space. By morning, though, most of the swelling was gone, and he was a feisty little guy once again!

Yeah for Date night! Aren't those just the best? Few and far between but always worth it!

Poor Ocho!!! That would be a scare indeed! I'm glad you were able to get him taken care of and all is better!

Everyone I know who's seen that movie says it's really good. But I'll probably have to wait for the DVD. : (
