destination imagination

Otherwise known as D.I.

D.I. is a community based school friendly program where young people take what they know and what they do well and learn to apply it to solve challenges. They work cooperatively on a team and push their limits of imagination to do their best.

Aspen decided she wanted to try-out for D.I. this year...

Try-outs consisted of two parts. 1) An audition with a group of other kids, doing an impromptu skit in front of teachers and other students. That took place about two weeks ago. 2) A sculpture project that honored a historic event or person that had to be 12" tall. This was turned in last week...

Aspen's scultpure was on the Oklahoma City bombings...and she recreated the Memorial...it turned out pretty good! I can't believe we forgot to take pictures of it before it went to school. I'm sure she'll be bringing it home, and I'll get pictures then...the above picture is of Chris showing her how to use the saw during the building of her sculpture...

They were supposed to find out if they made the team last Friday...but they made them wait until today.

ASPEN MADE IT!! She's so dang excited, and she should be...this is a huge thing for her!

We're so proud of her! This is a great opportunity for her, and we believe that she'll grow a lot as a person through this experience...her first practice is tomorrow after school...
