weekend

:: We've had a fairly relaxing weekend here, and I've enjoyed it. Friday evening, Aspen went to the first Wylie home football game, so Chris and I had dinner at Brickoven Pizza. It was delish and we had a lovely evening together. From there, we spent some time at Mardels (a Christian book store) and Hastings, and bought a few goodies. It was nice to just waste away some time together...

:: Saturday morning was Aspen's first high school cross country meet...it was here in town at the park by the zoo, and we were excited to see how Aspen's fitness level is these days. She spent a week at a great running camp over the summer, and has been training with the team and a little on her own as well. Unfortunately, Aspen's race wasn't what anyone had hoped for.

This was the first time we saw her after the starting line...they looped back into the woods, and when they came out, she was quite far back in the pack.

She didn't have much kick at the end, either, and came in with her slowest two mile time of her running career thus far. It seems there is a lot for her to work on, and most important on that list is her heart and her desire to race. Otherwise, it is going to be a long season for all involved...

:: From the park, we cleaned up very quickly and then headed to our church to participate in the new college ministry. They are beginning a new Adopt-a-Student program, and we are planning to adopt one. The goal is to help the freshman college student feel a little less home sick, feed them every now and then, offer up our washer and dryer to them...that kind of thing. Chris and I have both experienced the sensation of being away at college so far from family, and we hope that we can ease that for one here in Abilene. We had a fun time, had some lunch and played a game. Seems like a good group of kids.

:: Chris suggested we do our grocery shopping Saturday night (we usually do it Sunday on the way home from church), and he wanted to try Walmart to see how much money we could save. We have created a budget and are tightening our pursestrings so that when the time comes to build our dream home, it won't be an issue. Unfortunately it did seem a bit cheaper there but I HATE WALMART!!! Blah.

:: Sunday we started our new bible study class at church. Chris and I have decided to go through the "godly marriage" class, and I am excited for what it will do for our union.

:: I have successfully completed my first week of P90X and I can't tell you how excited I am! I feel motivated and I'll take it for sure. I already feel a little different in my body (nothing major, just little things) and I can't wait to see what I look like after 90 days. Today is a rest day, but you can do a stretching workout if you want. I had planned on a rest day but think the stretch might be beneficial. The jury is still out. Pumped for week 2 to begin tomorrow!!!!

:: Now I am relaxing and reading and enjoying the sound of the pouring rain. I don't mind the rain when I can stay inside and just listen...

SO proud of you and the P90X! Brandon is doing that too. I am sorry that Apsen's race wasn't what you had all hoped, but maybe that is just what she needs to motivate herself some more. I hate Walmart too, but I hear you on tightening up those purse strings...here too!
