Maui Installment #4: Chris' Adventure!

So, when Chris was 18 years old, he decided to get a tattoo...

"Karly" and the symbol for forever...Karly is Aspen's mom.

So, walking along the street in Maui, we spotted a tattoo shop...and he wanted to just check it out. And, 18 years later, he decided it was time to get that name covered up!

We made the appointment for the day before we left Maui, and then began to discuss what he should get. Being a coverup tattoo, it made it a little more difficult. He determined that he wanted something having to do with running and with his spirituality. But we couldn't figure out an "image" idea...

We went in to the shop and met with Kaid Knight...and Kaid seemed a little put off that we didn't have an image in mind. But after a little internet research, we all agreed on a general concept...and it went from there.

After drawing right on Chris' leg with a green sharpie, Kaid finally set on this design. A footprint, to represent the running. 26.2, the distance of the marathon, in the heel. And if you'll look closely, there is also a cross in there (in the negative space). Covered all the bases, AND covered Karly right up! He decided to keep the "forever" symbol in there to break up the image a bit too. He went over the green sharpie with a red fine marker, and then got started. It took about an hour or so...

Kaid himself was interesting...he wasn't entirely social, but his tattoos were neat. They all had a religious undercurrent. He is also a painter, and in this next pic you can see the big flower painting he had done behind Chris...

This is Chris hamming it up a bit...but yes, the tattoo process is pretty painful!!

In progress...and then the finished product!!!

Chris is very happy with the end result!! And we love the color too. So glad he didn't just go with black.

Mahalo, Kaid!!
