catch up -- tour de gap -- 7/27/13

I realized, while looking through my folder of photos, that I never posted about the Tour de Gap! So I'd like to go back now and do that.

Chris' coworker, Matt, signed up for the Tour de Gap for the first time...and so, to support him, Chris decided to ride it with him. Chris has done this bike race in the past, and even though he hadn't trained for it at all, he was confident he was in good enough shape to ride the 27 miles.

We met up in Buffalo Gap bright and early...Chris finished off his coffee and Matt hemmed and hawed...then the boys got lined up with all the other riders and off they went! The fun thing was that they rode this race on mountain bikes...instead of rode bikes. Not exactly racing material, and they were some of the only riders on mountain bikes. That made it interesting!

Chris' plan was to motivate Matt to ride just a little faster than he wanted to. Matt had never done a bike race before, and he treated it as just another training ride. Chris rode with him the whole way, trying to get him to kick it into another gear :) Matt was happy where he was. Which is fine, it was his race. Finally, during the last five miles, Chris couldn't handle it and had to finish the race as hard as he could!

Chris came in, and then Matt a few minutes later. And then our group of cheerleaders celebrated with them both!!

Neeley, Anna, Allison, the Shaake family, Matt's wife and cutie daughter + me -- best cheerleaders around!
I am proud of Chris, as always -- it was fun to see him competing! He is the most competitive person I know, so I know it felt good for him to do this. It also makes me so proud that he is always up for supporting others who are doing things for the first time. I don't think he realizes what this means to people. He's amazing!
