ghost door

Tuesday night / Wednesday morning :: approx. 4:40 a.m.

Ocho whines...I get up and under a fog of sleep, I get him out of his crate and proceed to take him outside to do his business. I stop short in the kitchen as I realize...the back door leading to the back yard is standing open. My heart drops to my feet and I stand paralyzed for a moment. Is someone in the house? Did we forget to lock the door? Was it not pulled closed all the way and the wind blew it open? I've been smelling skunks lately, what if one of them has entered through this golden gateway? All of these thoughts go through my mind in an instant. Finally I decide that if someone DID come into our house, they would've killed us by now, so I continue outside. I checked the door three times before heading back to bed. And was unsettled for the rest of my sleep...

Wednesday night / Thursday morning :: approx. 5:07 a.m.

Ocho whines...I get up and under a fog of sleep, I get him out of his crate and proceed to take him outside to do his business. I stop short in the kitchen as I realize...the back door leading to the back yard is standing open AGAIN! I'm not quite as scared this time...instead I'm thinking WHAT THE HELL? Before going to sleep, I made triple sure that the door was pulled close all the way and that it was locked. And here it was open again. Ocho does his business and back to bed we go. And I lay there thinking, maybe we DO have a ghost! Chris has told me before that he sometimes sees a woman standing in the corner of our bedroom. I'm not a firm believer in the whole ghost thing, but at 5:07 a.m. it's easy for your mind to get away from you! :)

When Chris got up this morning, I told him about the occurances. He said that he had checked the door before going to bed too, so it was all good when we turned in. He suggested that it was probably a case of Mimi letting Little Man out in the middle of the night, and then in her sleepy haste, not closing the door fully. Which made sense, since the locks were locked even when the door was open. So, after talking with Mimi, it turns out that this is probably what's been happening. She got up the night before last, though she doesn't remember getting up last night. I'm sure she did. Mystery solved.

No ghost afterall...

That would indeed have been enough to scary the crap out of me! Glad that you have solved the mystery!!

That would completely freak me out! I'd have hightailed it to Ashleigh, jerked her out of bed and woke Kenneth up to go "secure the house!"

You are much braver than me, Ms. Kelley!

Glad it turned to be nothing.
